Travel Guide Tip to Philippines and Romblon
A jaded tourist, after spending a weekend in these islands, gave this unsolicited remark:
Romblon is an island in the Sibuyan Sea between Mindoro and Bicol. Romblon can be described by all of the usual good words: remote, rustic, charming, scenic, unique, and magical. It is a well known island in the Philippines, because it is famous for its marble but has very little tourist activity. Romblon has nice white sand beaches with good reef systems. Due to the principles of the indigenous people, destructive fishing techniques have not been used in the area. The reefs are virgin with an unusual abundance of fish. The area has bottomless walls with ample amounts of pelagics. One of the more unique dives is the blue hole which you enter on top of the reef at 6 meters and exit in the middle of the wall at 40 meters. Inside is lobsters, crabs, groupers and whitetips. When you exit on the wall you usually see tuna, barracuda, jacks and the occasional manta.
The small amount of diving that has been over the last couple of years in the area was camp and dive safari groups. The divers were more than pleased with the overall quality of the diving. Each group saw hammerheads, manta rays and turtles. Diving is now available through Big Bantoy at the Marble Beach with its own standard bungalows. It is a place for the more adventurous who are willing to ruff it a little to see the "real" Philippines rather than
Romblon..an undiscovered diving paradise
Other islands in Romblon were also popular for diving Safaris. Sibuyan Island and Cresta Del Gallo were now in the map of professional divers. The Tres Islas, comprising Banton, Simara and Sibale are also gaining attention.

"Romblon is a true Philippine picture - so much history, culture and such charming people... and the beaches! It's an unspoiled tropical paradise, a real off-the-beaten-
track discovery!!! Seems like seeing the whole Philip-
pines in a nutshell and the cruise was only a weekend!"
that created for the foreign tourist. The diving is characterized by pristine coral gardens with excellent tropical marine life. It is highly recommended for the serious photographer. It also has very good walls where bigger animals are encountered. The dive areas are in the range of 5 minutes to a 1 hour boat ride away.
